COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Care Family Domestic Violence Center

The Care Center sees victims and abusers. Classes are offered on how to resolve conflict, how to communicate, and how to channel anger. Services are provided through The Department of Social Services for families needing daycare, medical or visual assistants. The Harambee Graduate Chapter donates annually to the Care Center. The Sisters have made monetary donations and have coordinated donation drives to collect suitcases, toiletries, bath towels, bedsheets, and cleaning supplies for families in need.

Ebony Pearl Mentoring & Scholarship Program

The Harambee Graduate Chapter created and piloted the Ebony Pearl Program in 2000. Since that time we have implemented the Ebony Pearl Mentoring and Scholarship Program. We have consistently mentored young ladies in the Fayetteville and surrounding community from ages of 6 years old to graduating seniors. The Ebony Pearls are exposed to community and cultural events. We provide guest speakers, training sessions, and college tours. Knowing how important giving back to the community is, we are also scheduled to volunteer time at the Second Harvest Food Bank which serves seven counties, for the chapter sisters and the Ebony Pearls.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern NC

In a country that wastes billions of pounds of food each year, it's almost shocking that anyone in America goes hungry. Yet every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. We work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers to people in need. At the same time, we also seek to help the people we serve to build a path to a brighter, food-secure future. The Harambee Graduate Chapter along with our Ebony Pearl Mentees volunteer at the food bank by sorting canned goods and packaging them for delivery to the seven counties that the Second Harvest Food Bank serves. We box a variety of food items from meats, vegetables, bread, and desserts for families to take with them and we have even cleaned the warehouse to prepare for inspection.

The Child Advocacy Program

The purpose of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is to alleviate the trauma children experience once a disclosure of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse occurs by creating a community of collaborating advocates. Their Mission is to collaborate with community partners to respond to and prevent child abuse. Since 1993 the CAC has been providing a safe, child-friendly place where 19 partner agencies come together to interview, investigate and provide support for abused children. In addition to partnering with the CAC the Harambee Graduate Chapter has made annual monetary donations, attends training and participate in the annual launch of "Child Abuse Prevention Month" at the center. Pinwheels are spread all over Fayetteville and in the yards of our sisters to bring awareness.

American Heart Association

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women over age 25 but many women don't make their health a priority. Through “Go Red For Women”, we're raising awareness among women about their risks and empowering them to protect their heart health. The Harambee Graduate Chapter walks and donates to the American Heart Association to help achieve their mission!

Replenish a Classroom

Each year the Harambee Graduate Chapter raises funds to replenish a classroom. The Replenish a Classroom Project has become one of our most important community services. A teacher is selected in the Cumberland County Schools System. Once the year begins classrooms have plenty of supplies but by the second semester everything is needed. We receive a "Wish List" from a teacher and try to provide him/her with as much on the list as financially possible. It is always to treat to watch the children and the teacher become so excited over new pencils, crayons, paper, dictionaries, etc.
